Storage

The currently available storage space, of  85,000 tonnes, has grown progressively over the years to meet the demands of the increasing membership.

The site is comprised of 56 silos of varying sizes, which help with the segregation of the many varieties stored.  Our three intake pits give us a total intake rate of 750 tonnes per hours, filling 3 driers via 16 intake bins.  Our storage capability means we are able to meet the demands of strict levels of quality segregation required by our members and marketing partners and end users.

All Silos are fully ventilated and temperature monitored to ensured quality is preserved during long term storage.

The member can be confident that the maximum potential return from his harvest is maximised by the store.

Woldgrain Storage is TASCC registered and fully approved, alongside this we are also Coors/Vendor Assured for malting barley.

Chris Dowse of Sutton Estates, ex Vice Chairman and a member of Woldgrain Storage Ltd speaks about his experience trying to build grain storage on his farm.

“Planners are becoming harder to please and it is becoming increasingly difficult to get planning permission. I thought it would be cheaper to run but I don’t think you can ever work out the real cost, I estimated building a storage system from scratch before running it would cost £170-£180 per tonne.”

Richard Milligan-Manby of Manby Farms, the ex Chairman and a member of Woldgrain Storage Ltd explains why he decided not to renovate existing buildings on his farm into grain storage facilities.

“Using central storage is buying into a vision of the next 20 years. The supply chain is changing and becoming more sophisticated and regulated and will demand that grain comes from a central store like Woldgrain Storage. Before committing to this investment we reviewed the options of converting modern cattle buildings into on floor bulk drying. This basic storage was priced at £125/t. The Woldgrain investment will be far better value and will increase our marketing opportunities as we will have access to high specification facilities which will allow us to add value to our end product.”

Woldgrain’s focus is to provide a cost effective storage option to the traditional on-farm based storage, whilst maximising the financial potential of all members arable crop production. Owned by the members and operated for the members gain and benefit.

The store is ready and able to keep pace with your harvest requirements which means you are in control of the critical “When to Harvest“ decision, with positive gains in the areas of both labour and crop quality issues. Improvements from Project Valiant ensure that all your crop will be cleaned, sorted, blended and graded beyond the capability of even the most comprehensive on farm setup.

Even in a extreme harvest the store has the capability to maximise the financial return on your crop. Long term storage presents opportunities by allowing you to choose the optimum time to go to market with your crop

Our Storage presents a realistic option to farmers whose own facilities may have outlived their natural lifespan, and are no longer cost effective to rebuild. Others may simple have outgrown their storage or lack the segregation to keep future marketing opportunities.
